Mr. Melham has over 37 years’ experience in master planning large projects, both in the United States and abroad. Spanning virtually all land uses, these projects include major residential communities, commercial and industrial developments, land reclamation, golf courses, public parks, and linear recreational facilities.
Relevant Project History
Mr. Melham guides the design of the firm’s major projects, seeking to make each design solution as functional, aesthetic, environmentally friendly and financially successful as possible. He also oversees project performance, staffing and budgeting, business development, and manages corporate investment. Following are several examples of projects relevant to this solicitation that were designed by Mr. Melham.
Middletown, DE - ‘The Legends,’ - a 400 acre community comprised of 600 residences with integral golf course, town commons, and recreational activities, including an extensive pedestrian footpath system connecting residential clusters and environmental / recreational areas. Under construction.
Stoke-on-Trent Reclamation, Staffordshire, U.K. - Landscape Architect and planner for extensive reclamation of 30 sq. mi. of former coal mines, clay workings, and railways among seven towns, comprising the Stoke-on-Trent area, center of England’s fine bone china industry. The 3 year project featured many miles of new footpaths and cycleways, interlinking the seven towns and numerous new park and recreation areas, reclaimed from disused and derelict industrial lands.
York County Parks & Recreation Dept., PA - Served as Principal Landscape Architect in Master Planning an existing 143 acre county park. Work included development of concept plans predicated upon public participation and Committee findings, exploring development / expansion options for the park, efforts, developing detailed cost estimates, and dividing the overall development into logical, affordable phases.
Bank Hall Reclamation, Burnley, U.K. - Creation of a 50 acre park within city center formerly surface operations of a large underground mine. The park features both riverfront and canal restoration, an 18 hole pitch-n-putt golf course, senior citizen housing project, and conversion of a rail line into 3/4 mile pedestrian line to market / shopping area.
Duffryn Estate, Wales, U.K. - Land planner / landscape architect for winning entry of design competition for 4,000 public-sector houses, schools, recreational facilities, and small commercial center on 1,600 acre estate. Master plan has extensive system of walkways and bicycle paths throughout the project.
Littau, Lucerne, Switzerland - In association with Ernst Baumann, participated as land planner in winning entry for design competition involving private development for 10,000 residents. The ‘New Town’ includes multiple housing types, commercial and professional zones, and varied recreational areas, including a man-made lake.
Swatara Creek Greenway, Dauphin Co., PA - Principal-in-Charge of firm’s association with Natural Lands Trust to plan 11 miles of greenway.
